HOMEBIRTH
Held at Home
Birth With more impact for you, less on the earth
Birthing at home can be a gentler choice for both families and the earth. With fewer single-use items and less plastic, homebirth naturally creates less waste.
I choose reusable products wherever possible, biodegradable detergents and simple alternatives such as hemp cord ties instead of plastic clamps.
Being at home also means being surrounded by familiar people and a known midwife, creating a calm environment where you can feel safe, supported and able to surrender to birth.

Preparing For Homebirth
Homebirth begins long before labour.
Throughout pregnancy we prepare together — talking through your hopes and concerns, your health and pregnancy, the practicalities of birthing at home, your birth space, your support people and the different paths birth may take.
My intention is for you to approach birth feeling informed, supported and confident in the choices you are making.
We can explore:
-
Preparing your home and birth space
-
Birth pools and waterbirth
-
Early labour and when to contact me
-
Comfort measures and movement
-
Partner preparation
-
Birth preferences and planning
-
What equipment is needed
-
What happens if plans need to change

Preparing for the first hours and days with your baby

Waterbirth
Warm water can offer privacy, comfort and freedom of movement during labour.
For families who would like the option of waterbirth, we can talk through birth pools, setting up your space and what to expect when labour begins.
There is no requirement to birth in the water simply because you have a pool available. It is there as another option for you to follow what feels right for your body during labour.

Nourish the Mother Nourish the baby
Healthy newborn babies require very little. When born at home, they can remain in their mother’s arms for as long as feels good — often for many hours.
In these first golden hours, all your baby needs is to be held, given access to their mother’s bosom and allowed time. The umbilical cord slowly changes from full and juicy to white, as the pulsation naturally ceases.
At home there is very little interruption. Women are the authority of their own bodies, birth is considered a normal physiological event, and babies can stay skin to skin with their mothers for hours, sometimes days.
I believe we need to value these first precious days — uninterrupted rest, healthy nourishment and the joy of breastfeeding.

Placenta
Homebirthing Families look at their placenta holistically, seeing how this vital organ of the baby, no longer needed to support support life inside, is to be honoured and either consumed to nourish the mother or returned to the earth to nourish the garden.
The placenta is not seen as a waste product to be incinerated and add to carbon emissions.

Considering a Homebirth?
If you’re wondering whether homebirth may be right for you, we can begin with a conversation.
You don’t need to have everything decided.
We can talk about your pregnancy, your questions and what you’re looking for in your care, and explore whether working together feels like the right fit.
